Ethan Patrick Dalton, our beautiful boy, left his life here on earth on Sunday September 1, 2024.
While we are heartbroken by this unexpected tragedy, we have been so filled with love and joy at the outpouring of support from his friends and his classmates. We knew he was a special person, but the number of people who have told us time and again that not only was he a straight A honors student, but he was also the first person to show up when somebody needed help. Even when he was a little boy, he always came to the defense of the bullied and the shunned. He had just started his senior year and had spent all six semesters on the Dean’s list, and the last five semesters with a 4.0 grade point average. His free time was spent helping others and giving time to charitable causes, much of which was in support of firefighters. He is a two-time recipient of the Pi Kappa Alpha scholarship and the recipient of the Texas Rising Star award. In his honor, the Texas State Pi Kappa Alpha scholarship will be named after him from this point forward.
We will honor him forever.
October 1, 2024 - "Ethan has been gone a month and I realized something today. When we have tragedies and illness and difficult times, we encourage ourselves to ‘get through it’. But here there is no through. Through what? Every day for the rest of my life, Ethan will not be here. There is no through. But he talks to me. And it’s not a coping mechanism. It’s true. Like Stacy said, all that energy and all that beautiful soul went somewhere; it breaks through to talk to me. So I just want to let you all know that Ethan is fine. And I will never get through this and I will never stop missing him, but I am fine. Ethan lets me know that I am fine. And I just want to say thank you to everyone who has been there for us; it all combined into this great big beautiful thing and everything will be OK."
